What is Mobile-First Indexing?

It's common knowledge nowadays that Google and other search engines crawl the web and create an index of everything we could ever need to know. Got a question? Google it.

But did you know that Google indexes are based on traditional desktop websites? Well, it might surprise you to know that's all about to change. In September 2020, Google shifted its indexing algorithm to rank websites with mobile optimisation first to keep up with the mobile-first world.

What Does that Mean for You?

Put simply, if your site isn't up to scratch for mobile users, you'll be pushed to the back of the queue and potentially lose the ranking you've worked so hard to gain. Customers could begin to find it hard to find you, and your organic web traffic could take a real hit. But it's not all doom and gloom - there's good news too! By reviewing your content and UX specifically with mobile in mind, you can improve your website and even gain a few rankings along the way.

An SEO Audit

What's SEO? Glad you asked!

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and while it's pretty complicated, in a nutshell, it's improving how Google finds and ranks your website. In essence, it's a process that boosts the quality and quantity of your web traffic by making sure your site is findable and now mobile-optimised.

With an SEO Audit, by reviewing the technical components of your site as well as the content, keywords and more in-depth things like tags and titles, we're pretty quickly able to give you recommendations on how to boost your mobile website to be more searchable and findable for your customers.

A UX Audit

The same goes for a UX and design review! Many of us built a website for desktop and then tacked it on mobile at the end, which means it's likely not optimised for mobile. Times are changing, and now's the best time to roll up our sleeves and get stuck in.

With a Mobile UX Audit, we'll review your current site and templates, see how users interact with it and supply you a list of wireframe, design and UX recommendations to look a bit more swanky, but make sure your site is firing on all cylinders too.

If you think you might be in need of an SEO or UX review, you’re probably right!
