PlaceMakers have recently launched a new programme designed to engage with large numbers of carpentry apprentices in New Zealand. This project focused on providing a digital solution for apprentices to gather information, inspiration and guidance along their journey to qualifcation.

Currently, there are around 8000 carpentry apprentices studying with BCITO. When approached to help PlaceMakers build Phase 1 of a central hub to provide informative, educational and promotional content to their subscribers (or “Crew Members”), we were excited by the possibilities this project held.

Following a collaborative technical discovery process, we have created a place where Crew Members can log in and access information on latest industry news, events, deals and competitions, as well as career advice and networking opportunities. A profile of each Crew Member is created based on information provided, allowing PlaceMakers to tailor their content accordingly.

The result is an engaging, inspiring and informative mobile-responsive portal built on the robust and flexible Umbraco 7 CMS. It has a unique look and feel but still retains basic brand elements from the main PlaceMakers website.

PlaceMakers are dedicated to nurturing engagement and loyalty from the very beginning of a Carpenter’s career and so this is just the first phase in what is a bigger plan. Watch this space!
