Terabyte is celebrating 30 years of digital this year, and what better way to celebrate than with a trip down memory lane! We've definitely seen digital transform over the years – from our beginnings as Teramedia working with CD-ROM to today as Terabyte Interactive building a range of innovative digital solutions. We've dug into the archives to bring you the very best bits from our past 30 years!

  • Tera FACT: Teramedia was born

    Teramedia was launched in 1990 as a News Corporation venture that designed, developed and marketed an award-winning edutainment internet portal and companion CD-ROM titles to children and K-12 educators in the USA.

  • Te Papa – KiwiKids

    Teramedia partnered with Te Papa to build a programme that could teach kids the alphabet the 'Kiwi' way. Kiwi Kids ABC contained fun animations and sounds reinforcing letter recognition, phonics and the concept of letter combinations.

  • Tera FACT: Rupert Murdoch once owned Terabyte

    Having established a strong newspaper publishing network, media giant INL turned its interests to building a magazine division in New Zealand, specifically in the digital space.
    Thus, INL took a 25% interest in Terabyte in 1994, with this increasing to 51% in June 1995.

  • Teramedia – Young Astronauts

    Designed based on the Young Astronaut Council's Curriculum, this CD-ROM contained 15 interactive activities and made maths, science and space an educational and entertaining resource.

  • Tera FACT: Terabyte helped create Virtual Spectator

    Terabyte was the co-mastermind behind Virtual Spectator, the software that produced graphic overlays for the America’s Cup! The insanely cool thing about this is that tt’s still used today!

  • News Corporation – Team Newscorp

    Terabyte designed and built a large, complex website for Team NewsCorp and delivered the entire project without any face-to-face contact as the client was USA-based! A secure client-specific Extranet made this all possible.

  • HSBC Bank – Global Education Challenge

    Terabyte designed HSBC’s Global Education Challenge with entertaining activities encouraging kids to have fun while learning! In just four months, more than 12,000 children worldwide had registered on the site to compete weekly.

  • The Radio Network

    Terabyte was selected to take TRN on a journey from radio to radio+online and built a website per station, supporting the station culture, programmes, rich content and, of course, advertising.

  • Te Papa – Maori Showbands

    Teramedia partnered with Te Papa to develop the first online exhibition illustrating the stories, memories and vibrancy of the Showbands’ community, all the while ensuring that the user could navigate through the content intuitively.

  • Aquawalk – Journey Kiosks

    Kuala Lumpur’s Aquaria takes visitors on a path from the rainforest down to the sea. Terabyte designed an extensible database-driven kiosk platform that allowed visitors to learn more about the creatures that inhabit the various aquarium zones.

  • Aquawalk – Discovery Kiosks

    Aquaria turned to Terabyte to build a range of kiosks and a deployment engine to manage their digital assets. Terabyte designed and built kiosks that allowed users to interact with underwater creatures and interesting facts and figures!

  • Auckland Museum – Volcanoes Interactive Exhibitions

    Working closely with TV One News and the institute of geological and nuclear sciences, Terabyte created a news bulletin for the entrance to the Auckland Museum’s Volcanoes gallery, and what appears to be an imminent volcanic eruption.

  • New Zealand Trade and Enterprise

    Terabyte designed and built a new business.newzealand.com website with 7 regional content views across 4 languages all hosted in a multi-server infrastructure in Amazon Cloud!

  • Hermitage Hotel

    We transformed The Hermitage Hotel at Mt Cook to direct online bookings with full integration and a complex cloud-based hotel management system. This was the start of many tourism businesses transformed online over the following years.

  • Hobbiton

    Bringing Middle Earth to everyone's homes with a fresh website design and build with integrated booking system for Hobbiton!
