The Project:
Shoppers often had to contort themselves to read tiny details on
the old-styled chart-based directories - they were unintuitive and
hard to use. Westfield decided to move to a touchscreen system for
their new mall in Auckland's Albany, and turned to Terabyte, in
collaboration with touchscreen vendor Fingermark, to develop the
solution.
Terabyte undertook a program of workshops, paper prototyping and
wireframing in order to address the many challenges of the project,
including a demographic ranging from teenagers to the elderly, the
need to plot routes through the mall to a destination on demand,
and delivering it to a 42" plasma screen housed vertically.
The solution was built in flash to sit on top of an existing
kiosk management system, exchanging data viaXML, and run under Next
Window touchscreen technology. The end result was a great looking,
accessible, and easy to use interface that makes finding your way
around the mall quick and easy.
