The Project:
Awesome Forces is all about creating a learning experience
within the context of a game. The site is built in Macromedia Flash
in order to provide a high level of interactivity and rich content,
important components when creating a strong learning outcome.
Also available in Maori, Awesome Forces has the primary
objective of communicating the EQC's mitigation message. New
Zealanders need to know what preparations need to be made around
the home to in order to minimise natural disaster damage.
The user is guided through a series of scenarios where they are
asked to make a decision about how they will secure objects in
their home. After activating the disaster (earthquake, tsunami or
volcano eruption) the user is presented with the outcome of their
decisions - did your objects fall and smash, did your fixing of
your house foundations survive the rumble? Additional to being able
to view the effects of natural disasters the website also presents
information about what disasters are likely to occur in different
areas of New Zealand and also all important information about
building your own survival kit.
