The Project:
Terabyte were commissioned to build a new website that
consolidated Parliament's many websites into a single online
presence, where the public could access all of Parliament's output
- searchability was of course a key requirement.
Content for the site comes from several different internal
sources - many of which can now automatically publish content
directly to the website's CMS. As well as this, support for
publishing templated word documents directly to the website as HTML
was a significant requirement (and a significant challenge) that
was successfully met.
Since the website was deployed live, additional enhancements
have been made including support for streaming Parliament TV,
automated email alerts, RSS feeds and support for Hansard (the
official report of The House) in searchable HTML pages that
are also broken down into debates and speeches - previously
these were only available in PDF format.
The project also required the development of a new intranet for
the campus which held a copy of all of the public content plus
secure internal content. This has been further enhanced with
the development of an integrated Room and Event Booking system.
Successful and well recieved from launch, The NZ Parliament site
is considered a benchmark for government websites
internationally.
