The Project:
The very definition of a fun site to work on, nicknz.co.nz is an
extension of the Nickelodeon channel and all the crazy fun it
embodies. Created specifically for the channel's young viewers, and
designed and built with their needs and browsing habits in mind,
the site invites kids to get involved, express themselves, and
above all, play!
The existing site was already very successful, with a 30,000
strong database of users - so any redesign had to improve their
experience… kids can be some of the toughest critics! The content
is very interactive, with loads of games, trailers from shows,
videos of nick fans, chat forums and more.
The interface itself is colourful and engaging, and skillful use
of front-end technologies such as javascript and Flash allowed us
to deliver lots of clever effects, animations and interface
elements to help communicate the fun and excitement that are core
to the Nickelodeon brand.
The response following release of the new site was phenomenal,
with kids weighing in on the message boards and via the "nick
natter" feature that allows them to post short messages to a
scrolling message board visible across the site. The feedback was
overwhelmingly positive, and the exclamation point count was off
the charts - Kids! Love!! Exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!
