The Project:

Most of us are very familiar with the familiar shape of New Zealand but most do not realize the extent to which it has been changed due to plate tectonics and volcanism.

Using data provided by the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, Terabyte recreated a 3D aerial view of New Zealand as it was 20 million years ago.

Morphing over time, this production shows how numerous volcanic and other geological events have shaped the land around us that have culminated in the New Zealand we know today.
